The Natural Power of Essential Oils

Why our potent blends are much better than synthetic fragrances.

As big advocates of clean beauty, we don’t think twice about using essential oils over synthetic fragrances in our bath soaks. But for those who are new to the world of natural beauty, the difference between the two might seem confusing. We’re here to demystify these two different types of fragrance and help you see that essential oils are always the more natural, nurturing option for your skin.

Essential oils reduce the chances of irritation

Did you know that by law beauty companies do not have to label all their ingredients if they use synthetic fragrance? So you can never be totally sure of what a product with synthetic fragrance contains… This can often lead to severe allergic reactions or skin irritations, and in some cases this can cause serious harm.

While some essential oils may also cause an allergic reaction in rare cases, they are on the whole much safer for sensitive skin types than synthetic fragrances. Natural products tend to be gentler on the skin and can even be used to treat a variety of skin conditions. As a brand that focuses on serving those with sensitive skin first and foremost, using essential oils was our obvious choice.

Essential oils are non-toxic

Because companies that use synthetic fragrances don’t have to declare all their ingredients, they are sometimes able to hide their use of palates, hormone-disrupting chemicals and other known carcinogens in their products. Which is pretty terrifying. Unlike synthetic fragrances, which are created from man-made chemicals in a laboratory, essential oils are completely natural.

What you read on the label is what you get. Nothing more, nothing less. All of the oils used in our milk bath soaks are steam-distilled from plant extracts and sourced locally from a company in Switzerland. We know who made them, how they made them and when they made them. We believe this level of transparency should be the standard when it comes to ingredients in beauty products.

Essential oils have aromatherapy benefits

Most beauty companies use synthetic fragrances as they are often cheaper and can have a much longer shelf-life than natural alternatives. But one of the things synthetic fragrance can’t trump essential oils on is aromatherapy benefits. Various essential oils including lavender and peppermint have been scientifically proven to help with stress reduction, inflammation and mood in-balance, three things a synthetic fragrance can never replicate. Essential oils’ transformative effect on the mind, body and soul is what sets them apart from imitators, and is the reason why they have been used in beauty routines for centuries.
